Taking the first-in-the-nation primary away from New Hampshire,
Secretary of State Bill Gardner said, would be like hooking a tugboat
to the Statue of Liberty and towing it from New York. But what if New
Hampshire actually lost the primary?
"The sun would never appear in our sky, it would rain every day,
and all our hearts would be dark,"said Tom Rath, a Republican
strategist who has served as a top adviser on several primary
campaigns. "It would not be the same joyful place it is."
New Hampshire's leadoff role for the 2008 primary could be
