On the phone from her home in Stoughton, Mass., singer-songwriter
Lori McKenna is happy to talk about the genesis of her dual roles as
busy mom and up-and-coming country-folk performer (Faith Hill
included several of her songs on a recent album.) But her youngest
son David, 20 months, prefers talking - loudly and somewhat
insistently, in the background - about the merits of wearing one sock
versus two while munching on peanut butter.
"He really wants that sock to go," said McKenna, with the bemused
tone of somebody equally at home solving children's hosiery issues
and writing exquisite stories of love, lament and longing.
