Article: School funding law unclear, lawyers say; 'Adequate education'not explicitly defined

Without defining an "adequate education," it's impossible to figure out how much money to spend on New Hampshire schools or if the state is spending enough, lawyers for a coalition of 19 school districts and towns unhappy with the state's most recent school funding law said yesterday.

The coalition sued the state last year over its school funding law. Lawyers argued that the law should be thrown out because it fails to define and cost out an adequate education, as ordered by previous state Supreme Court decisions. A superior court judge agreed in March and declared the law unconstitutional.
