Former president Bill Clinton defended New Hampshire's first-in-
the-nation primary yesterday, saying he strongly opposes a plan by
national Democrats to add an early contest to the presidential-
nominating calendar.
On a visit to the state, Clinton also said his wife shares his
firm support for New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary. New
York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is considered a likely contender for
the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
"They should leave Iowa and New Hampshire alone," Clinton said.
"I've been really clear about it."
Clinton vowed to lobby the Democratic National Committee to scrap
