McCain's war critique leaves something out

Sen. John McCain said last week that the Bush administration had misled Americans with its rosy view of the war in Iraq. No surprise there. Despite his staunch support of the invasion of Iraq, McCain has compiled a consistent and laudable record of criticizing the administration on its conduct of the war.

As New Hampshire voters remember from McCain's 2000 odyssey in the Straight Talk Express, his signature quality as a presidential candidate is candor. Perhaps no candidate in history has taken better advantage of the opportunity our presidential primary affords to make a personal connection with voters. If he begins a 2008 run in earnest
