Article: Senate passes bill defining adequacy; Kindergarten included as measure advances

If New Hampshire lawmakers have their way, kindergarten will soon
be offered in all school districts. Yesterday, the Senate voted to
include kindergarten in the state definition of an adequate
education. If Gov. John Lynch approves the proposal, New Hampshire
would cease to be the only state that doesn't offer kindergarten to
every student.
The Senate vote moved the state one step closer to meeting a court-
ordered July 1 deadline for defining a constitutionally adequate
education. But the legislative process isn't complete: Because the
House and Senate versions of the definition differ, lawmakers from
both chambers have to agree on a final version.
