In a speech full of strong rebukes for his own political party, Sen. John McCain told Republicans they needed to examine their own missteps if they hope to regain ground in 2008.

Speaking to a group of about 300 at the Gilford Fire House yesterday, the Arizona senator and Republican candidate for president said voters who ousted Republican majorities in Congress last year were showing their displeasure about more than just the war.

"I'm not sure if that's why our party faithful" left, he said. "We Republicans lost our way."

McCain's town meeting event was filled with barbs for Republicans in Washington, who he said have wasted money through earmarks and pork barrel projects, and criticisms ...
