The Democratic National Committee "scheduled" New Hampshire to
hold its presidential primary on Jan. 22, but there's little chance
of that. The law requires us to vote before nearly everyone else. And
with states continually leapfrogging to the front of the pack, New
Hampshire's Election Day is creeping earlier and earlier.
Last week, South Carolina Republicans moved their contest to Jan.
19. That means New Hampshire can't vote after Jan. 12, a Saturday! If
we keep to the Tuesday tradition, we could vote Jan. 8, which would
perhaps push the Iowa caucuses to New Year's Day. Meanwhile, there is
an enormous crush of states scheduled to vote Feb. 5 - if they don't
get antsy and move up too.
