The Fresh Fields store in Rockville runs out of it on Saturdays.
The Sutton Place Gourmet chain had to hire an extra person this
summer to make enough of it. Italia in Silver Spring can't guarantee
there will be any by late afternoon on weekends.
And when Vace, the Italian deli in Cleveland Park, ran out before
noon on a recent Saturday, the crowd of customers inside almost
rioted.
Fresh mozzarella. When you gotta have it, you gotta have it. And
Washington's gotta have so much of it this summer, there's frequently
a shortage on weekends.
Now, granted, this crisis pales somewhat in light of the Midwest
flood, the Japanese earthquake and the war in Bosnia. But this is the
