Article: Washington Hills Tasting Room Ready to Reopen

SUNNYSIDE - Two months after an economic downturn prompted closure of its tasting room, Washington Hills Cellars has renovated it and plans a reopening Friday.

Located in a former milk plant on the south side of the city, the winery had been drawing about 30,000 tourists per year. But sales and visitors slowed after Sept. 11, winery officials said.

"Hopefully, we'll see a resurgence in tourism," said new tasting room manager Jean-Jacques "J.J." Compeau. "I think if the trend of people staying in-state for vacation continues, it will. I think wine will be a big draw for those in-state vacations."
