We've heard the cliche about rites of passage and kids being kids. But when there's a significant safety issue involved - such as racing cars on county roads - there's also a responsibility to the kids and the public to try to do something about it.

Local police departments and the Yakima County Sheriff's office are doing just that: A crackdown is in force and there is zero tolerance for those caught breaking the law.

It won't be easy, but racers should not underestimate the long arm of the law.
