Article: Editorial -- It's Time Forest Service Realizes That Fatal Fire Is Everyone's Business

The institutional arrogance of the U.S. Forest Service continues to boggle the mind.

The agency has reportedly suspended nine firefighters and commanders from fire duties in the wake of last summer's fatal Thirtymile Fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee national forests.

It's bad enough that the Forest Service investigated itself as to what went wrong, but these so-called disciplinary actions come 10 months after the tragedy. The Forest Service reportedly still employs the nine, but last week assigned all of them duties other than firefighting.

So apparently they can't be involved in the deaths of any more firefighters, but they still get to draw a paycheck while the agency continues to piddle ...
