Yakima River Spring Chinook Season Ends

The Yakima River's spring chinook salmon season will end as scheduled Sunday night.

Because high flows had hampered sport angling conditions for weeks, fisheries officials had considered extending the season if conditions were likely to improve. But that won't be the case, said John Easterbrooks, regional fish program manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

"The forecast is for sustained high flows through the rest of the month and into July. It doesn't look like the flows are going to come down to the point where we'll have fishable conditions that will give the angler a decent chance of success."
