It's known in the advertising trade as a tough sell: Come spend
your vacation in lovely Northern Ireland.
Come to the home of the Irish Republican Army? To the home of
Protestant paramilitary groups? To Belfast, where the biggest
downtown hotel has most of its windows covered with plywood as a
result of a terrorist bombing last May? Where loyalist mobs rioted
for two nights earlier this month, burning cars and looting shops?
Unlikely as it may sound, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board is
having some success in bringing visitors to the scene of one of the
world's bitterest, longest-running sectarian conflicts.
