If vile Howard Stern is the electric chair of so-called "Shock
Radio," then Don Imus, the new simulcast morning drive-time voice at
all-sports WTEM in Washington, is merely a AA battery trying to juice
up the station's flickering ratings after 15 months on the air.
Almost any New Yorker you ask will tell you that the I-Man's
general interest show originating at 50,000-watt WFAN in Queens,
easily the most successful all-sports station in the country, is must
listening in the morning. Funny, smart, a brilliant satirist and a
skilled interviewer, they'll tell you, adding that he'll own our town
inside of six months. At $3 million a year, he can definitely afford
it.
