Article: Lawmakers take new look at Paid Leave/House debates bill for seasonal workers

Workers who don't get paid leave or vacation would receive a week's paid leave for every six months of work under a bill to be considered today.

House Bill 1221 would cover workers, including seasonal agricultural employees, left out of legislation passed last year, according to Marilyn Watkins, policy director for economic security and tax policies at the Economic Opportunity Institute.

The Seattle nonprofit organization researches public policy issues affecting low-income and middle-class workers.

Effective Jan. 1, employers were required to let workers use paid time off to care for ailing relatives, including spouses, grandparents, parents, parents-in-law and disabled adult children.
