Health officials are keeping close watch on an ill child who
arrived here from a country experiencing SARS cases, but they said
Friday evening it's highly unlikely she has the virus.
"The only reason she rose above the radar screen was because she
was visiting from an infected area. She's improved. We really don't
think she has SARS," said Dr. Christopher Spitters, health officer
for the Yakima Health District.
The 3-year-old girl recently came to Yakima County with her
family. Health officials would not say where she traveled from, but
indicated it was a country with documented cases of SARS, or severe
acute respiratory syndrome.
