Article: Capitals Not Expected To Retain Carpenter; Veteran Center Offered Termination Contract

Bob Carpenter's second time around the rink with the Washington Capitals was not a successful trip for either the player or the team and Carpenter apparently will not be invited back next season.

Carpenter, the Capitals' 1981 first-round pick, scored 53 goals during the 1984-85 season before leaving amid much acrimony in a 1987 trade. Carpenter returned to Washington last summer under a complicated agreement that paid him $500,000 last season, but also allowed the Capitals to offer a termination deal for 1993-94.
