Article: Sims Touts His Leadership Skills -- King County official enters race to succeed Locke as governor

SEATTLE - King County Executive Ron Sims lost no time in heating up the governor's race Tuesday with a blistering attack on the "Olympia culture" and some barbs for his competitors.

Sims, who has led King County government for the past seven years, told cheering supporters he will put together a "quality of life" coalition that includes labor, small business and groups that want to improve education and higher education, protect the environment and expand health care.

Sims, 55, is one of at least three big-name Democrats who will face off in next year's primary to succeed two-term Democratic Gov. Gary Locke.
