Article: All Banners Lead to Wine Country

Colorful banners to promote Washington's burgeoning wine industry will be waving in the June breeze, promoters hope.

After many delays of the proposal to decorate Yakima, and now the rest of Eastern Washington's wine country, organizers have most of the artwork in hand and say the 3-by-5-foot banners could be installed in mid-June.

The plan, discussed Thursday at a meeting of the Yakima Downtown Association, is to hang banners on Yakima Avenue light poles from Interstate 82 to Seventh Avenue. That represents a substantial expansion of the original idea conceived by the group of business leaders last summer.
