SPOKANE -- After the Yakima Bears' divisional-title hopes all but went up in flames this week, A.J. Shappi came to the rescue on Saturday.

And Chris Carter held the ladder.

Shappi pitched perhaps his best game of the season -- a four- hitter over seven innings -- and Carter drove in three runs to break the club record for RBI in a season as the Bears rolled to a 5-1 victory over Spokane at Avista Stadium.

The Bears inched back up to 32-36 in the Northwest League's East Division with five more games against Spokane. However Yakima remains seven back of division-leading Boise, which closes the regular season with a three-game series against the Bears.
