Article: The Computer Bulletin Board Encounter

DEAR MISS MANNERS:

I subscribe to several computer bulletin boards. I probably spend no more than two hours a week on them, reading what others say, sometimes posting a comment or question, but often saying nothing.

The discussions are not personal. I like the bulletin boards because I can exchange ideas, information, comments, questions and answers with other people whom I would not otherwise have a chance to speak to on subjects of mutual interest, and with whom I might have nothing in common except those interests.

I have received messages from women who want to meet me. These women do not have enough personal information about me at this point to know my marital status, my age, or ...
