Slowly but surely, technology has worked its way into the
outdoors. Probably for better than worse, but I have to tell you, I
labor under the weight of my hunting pack as it is. Add one more
thing to it and I might have to leave everything at home and just go
hunting.
I think back to the days of throwing a candy bar or two, a few
extra shells and maybe a canteen of water in my hunting coat pockets
and off I went. Younger, dumber and in better physical condition, I
made it through none the worse for wear. But I shudder to think about
what might have happened if I had gotten lost.
Today, with my 20 pounds of necessary survival gear stuffed neatly
into my hunting day-pack, I trudge up the ...
