Walter Donald "Don" Houghton of Kirkland, former long time Yakima Valley farmer, lost his battle with lymphoma on November 25th. Don was born May 22, 1917 in Harrah WA to Walter and Alfreda Houghton. He continued to make his home in the valley until the age of 40, he moved to Seattle and began a new career in sales. He eventually became co-owner of Alps, Inc. retiring after the sale of the company.

Don and Charlotte Husch (high school sweethearts) were married in 1935, this marriage was blessed with 3 children, Kay, Mike and Ann. Don and Charlotte were involved in farming and the dairy business before becoming hop growers. Their lives would take them to Yakima, Sunnyside and eventually back ...
