WALLA WALLA -- Games like this sometimes happen to basketball teams, even good ones like the Yakima Valley women.

The Yaks' coach, Cody Butler, would've preferred that it had happened a couple of weeks earlier.

"That was the wakeup call you try to avoid," he said after YVCC's 73-69 loss to Walla Walla on Wednesday night. "You almost wish you'd lost your last game before league."

The defeat snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Yaks, who were ranked No. 2 in the most recent NWAACC poll. It reduced their region record to 2-1 and their overall mark to 16-2 going into Saturday's home game against No. 7 Columbia Basin, the defending NWAACC champion.
