Fruit leather is made by pureeing fresh, canned or frozen fruit
and then drying a thin layer of pureed fruit in the oven, dehydrator
or outside on a sunny, hot day. Fruit leather, sometimes called fruit
rolls, make nutritious high energy snacks for backpackers, campers
and active children. Fruit leather is easy to prepare and is a great
way to use leftover canned fruit or overripe fresh fruit.
Almost any fruit or combinations of fruits can be used. Apricots,
apples, grapes, berries, bananas, pineapple, pears, peaches and plums
can be blended and dried to make fruit leathers.
