When she first moved up from a legislative staff position to an
appointment to the state House of Representatives in 2001, Jana
Holmquist was a young, idealistic bundle of raw energy in need of
defining who she was and what she stood for.
Now, as she attempts to move over to the state Senate representing
the 13th District, we found ourselves interviewing a different Jana
Holmquist than the one we questioned four years ago in her first
House campaign. She was appointed in late 2001 when former Rep. Gary
Chandler resigned; she was elected in her own right in 2002 and re-
elected in 2004.
Legislative maturity and savvy are now clearly evident as she has
grown in her breadth of issues and depth ...
