After years of struggling, Washington's apple industry is on a
roll.
Record prices, big crops, strong demand.
"This is probably the best time across the board," said Miles
Kohl, executive director of the Yakima Valley Growers-Shippers
Association. "For all varieties, grades and sizes." Credit goes to
better marketing, new technology and a continued move away from the
industry's former star: the Red Delicious, a fine looking, but bland-
tasting apple that many consumers have grown weary of.
