The quest for beauty and honor leads Don Quixote to fantastic
adventures in Miguel de Cervantes' famous novel that inspired the
hit musical "Man of La Mancha," the symphonic poem "Don Quixote" by
Richard Strauss, and the popular ballet with which Pittsburgh Ballet
Theatre opens its season next weekend.
Although the earliest documented ballet on the high-minded and
delusional Spanish knight dates from the early 18th century, Russian
choreographer Marius Petipa's Romantic-era ballet, as refined in
1900 by Alexander Gorsky, provides the basis for most modern
productions.
Performances Friday, Saturday and Oct. 28 at the Benedum Center
will have the modern accents devised by Mikhail Baryshnikov ...
