Eleven batters, 11 outs, two relievers and one memorable pickoff
play. For the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night, it all added up to
... what's the word?
"Papajima," is the way winning pitcher Curt Schilling put it,
blending the last names of late-inning relievers Hideki Okajima and
Jonathan Papelbon. "That was the story."
Whatever you call it, the late relief work sealed a 2-1 victory
over the Colorado Rockies in Game 2 of the 103rd World Series at
Fenway Park.
The Red Sox lead the Series 2-0 entering a day off today before
play resumes with Game 3 on Saturday night at Coors Field in Denver.
In the franchise's first two World Series games, the Rockies have
scored a total of two runs.
