Medical condition may have played role

Police believe a medical condition might have caused a 72-year- old Ephrata driver to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide with an SUV in Ephrata Township Thursday.

Paul Hoffman, listed in critical condition at Lancaster General Hospital Thursday night, was driving a Ford Taurus west in the 700 block of East Main Street at 3:10 p.m. when he veered into the opposing lane and struck a Honda CRV, police said.
