Article: Uht milk sales plan a 'load of old bullocks'

A leaked Government plan to convince shoppers to buy UHT milk instead of a fresh pinta to cut the carbon count was yesterday dismissed by the minister in charge as a "load of old bullocks", writes Matt Chorley, London Editor.

Food and Farming Minister Jonathan Shaw claimed the idea that the amount of UHT milk should be increased to cut CO2 emissions was not Government policy, "never has and never will be".

The document - drawn up by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - suggested farmers and supermarkets encourage shoppers to buy long-life milk to help cut the carbon emissions from in-store refrigerators.
