Article: Rip-tide was like an exocet, says dad

A Father who survived the Algarve beach drownings today described the force of the lethal waters which claimed the lives of three British parents as "like an Exocet".

Dean Plumb, of South Marston, near Swindon, ran to help after seeing son Samuel, 12, caught in a rip-tide at Praio do Tonel in the Portuguese village of Sagres on Monday, he told a national newspaper.

Robert and Deborah Fry and their friend Jean Dinsmore, from Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, died after being caught in a treacherous current, while a German father died of a heart attack after his child was saved.
