IRWINDALE - Thousand-dollar meals, Broadway shows, chauffeurs and
New York Yankees tickets are just a few items city officials bought
with taxpayer money over a four-year period, records show.
The more than $200,000 charged on five trips to New York from
2001 to 2005 prompted the Irwindale City Council last month to limit
out-of-state travel spending.
Councilman Mark Breceda, who attended all five trips and was the
lone vote against the cap, said it is just another way the City
Council is "nickel and diming the city."
"These trips created and saved an enormous amount of money," said
Breceda, who is running for re-election.
