Article: St Pancras goes continental ; The opening of the new Eurostar terminal will bring 10,000 new homes and a glamorous boost to central London, says David Spittles

THE opening of the new Pounds 800 million Eurostar terminal in two weeks' time, on Sunday 14 November, will mark a turning point for the St Pancras/King's Cross area, which only a few years ago was a no-go zone, the haunt of kerb crawlers and crack addicts.

St Pancras's magnificent Victorian station, updated by architect Norman Foster, will bring genuine glamour, with Europe's longest champagne bar, a Searcy's brasserie and a string of Burlington Arcade-style boutiques among its delights. The revamped station will be an appropriate setting for the glossy, high-speed trains that will speed between London and Paris in only two-and-a-quarter hours.
