Article: Eastern Conference profile enhanced by arrival of Garnett

Whether a gathering, swirling breeze or a sudden, shivering gust, a freshening, westerly wind is blowing across the NBA, where this season the Boston Celtics suddenly once again are relevant and the formerly moribund Eastern Conference, if not exactly a beast, certainly no longer is so obviously the least.

The Celtics' draft-night deal for Ray Allen in June and their blockbuster swap with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett in July has transformed a once glorious franchise that won 24 games last season.

Those moves also further transform an Eastern Conference that not too long ago was, from bottom to top, Pawtucket to the big-league Western Conference.
