Those wondering why Dusty Baker took the Reds' managerial job got
their answer during his introductory press conference in Cincinnati
on Monday. He wanted to be wanted.
"This was the place I felt most wanted," Baker said. "It's a
great feeling when you feel wanted and feel needed. I want to
reciprocate that need and that want to the organization and the city
of Cincinnati."
Any warm vibes Baker felt emanating from the Cubs and their fans
began to chill on an October night in 2003 when a fan inadvertently
interfered with outfielder Moises Alou's chance to catch a foul
ball, precipitating a Cubs' meltdown of mythic proportion. Baker
