William Kennedy Smith, acquitted nearly two years ago in a
sensational Florida case that focused national attention on the issue
of date rape, was charged by Arlington police early yesterday with
assaulting a bar bouncer, authorities said.
Smith, the 33-year-old nephew of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-
Mass.), thought the bouncer, Henry "Hank" Cochran, was a friend of a
man Smith had agreed to fight outside the Bardo Rodeo pub on Wilson
Boulevard, authorities and Smith family members said.
"Our doorman opened the door for Smith, and he just got popped" by
Smith, said Lisa Lima, general manager of the Bardo Rodeo, a
cavernous pub in what used to be a car dealership. It is one of
