Thirteenth-ranked West Virginia came into the most unfriendly of
venues tonight - the Syracuse Carrier Dome - undaunted and
unimpressed by the hostile surroundings. When it was over, the
Mountaineers proved they're a team to be reckoned with, leaving the
Orangemen battered and demoralized in a 43-0 victory before a stunned
homecoming crowd of 49,268.
West Virginia improved to 7-0 in winning its eighth straight
dating back to last season. The Mountaineers also positioned
themselves for their first top 10 ranking since 1989 and paid back
Syracuse for a controversial 20-17 loss in Morgantown, W. Va., last
