The grass is manicured. The shrubbery is neatly trimmed. The town
houses stand in formal ranks bordered by spotless sidewalks. It seems
like any other well-kept suburban development. But there is a
difference.
It's public housing. Called Towne Centre Place, the 65 brick homes
are set in the village of Olney on Morningwood Drive just off Georgia
Avenue in upper Montgomery County.
"It's a very safe area; I feel free to have friends come over,"
said Judy Hewitt, who with her 13-year-old son, Ronald, has lived in
Towne Centre Place for eight years. "For most of us, it's closely
knit."
