Article: For Clinton, Camp David Is a Rarely Used Retreat; But First Family Is There for Thanksgiving

When President Clinton gathered his Cabinet and senior advisers at Camp David at the start of his administration, some of the aides eagerly descended on the canteen there to stock up on souvenirs like Camp David mugs and Frisbees.

It was lucky they acted then. It may be their only chance.

Unlike most modern presidents, Clinton seems to have little interest in spending time at the 143-acre presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains.

When the Clintons and assorted relatives celebrate Thanksgiving today at Camp David, it will be only the president's fifth visit to the rustic mountaintop compound in the 10 months since he took office.
