You've given your thanks. Now it's time to give up the bank.
For millions of people, post-Thanksgiving Day marks the beginning
of holiday shopping and the end of any meaningful relationship with
what's in their wallets.
But maybe you're not up to facing the mall. Maybe you've received
a million holiday catalogues - those magazines so brimming with
earthly delights that we once called them "wish books" - and plan to
shop from a few.
I do, but I've adored holiday catalogues since childhood. For a
long time back then, I only noticed how angelic Sears's "Christina"
doll looked, how Spiegel's hair bows came in six shades. Mostly, I
noticed stuff I wanted.
