West Virginia cannot play in the New Year's Day bowl that matches
the two top-rated teams in college football, so it apparently has
chosen the one that will generate the most money - the Sugar Bowl.
But playing in that game rather than the Cotton Bowl might hurt its
chance of winning a share of the national championship.
"We're looking at both possibilities," said assistant athletic
director for external affairs Mike Parsons, referring to the $4.1
million Sugar Bowl vs. the $3 million Cotton Bowl. "Right now,
nothing is official."
But today's Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune both report that
it's a done deal: West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl vs. the winner of
Saturday's Alabama-Florida ...
