Article: Post Names Getler Deputy Managing Editor

The Washington Post yesterday named Michael Getler, assistant managing editor for foreign news, to the newly created position of deputy managing editor, the newsroom's third-ranking post.

Getler, 58, headed a newsroom task force that criticized The Post for a "confrontational and male-dominated" culture in which minorities "do not seem to rise through the ranks." Its 90-page report made dozens of recommendations about recruitment, training and career development and said a deputy managing editor should be named to oversee these issues.
