There was nothing sedate about Georgetown's Big East opener
against Villanova yesterday. Filled with flaring tempers, ugly
turnovers and atrocious shooting, the game was decided in the final
seconds as the lowly Wildcats staved off a late Hoyas surge to win
75-73 before 8,943 vocal fans at Capital Centre.
It was a frustrating loss for No. 22 Georgetown (7-2), best
symbolized by four missed free throws in the last 14 seconds and a
reversed foul call that so angered Coach John Thompson that he
hurled a towel toward the officials near the locker room after the
game, according to several witnesses.
