MADISON - In a town where most people enjoy country-western or
rock 'n' roll tunes, the four teenagers - three white and one black -
embraced hip-hop songs.
Their musical tastes led them to join a handful of other rap-
loving kids with similar interests, forming a ragtag gang here. They
proudly showed their allegiance, contorting their fingers to form the
letters and numbers that represented their clique. Sidewalks, bridges
and walls bear their symbols and mark their territory.
Three months ago, one word turned the four teenagers against one
of their cohorts.
