It isn't often that National Geographic Specials come with a
warning, and in fact there isn't one preceding "Eternal Enemies"
(Wednesday at 8 on PBS).
But perhaps there should be. This beautifully filmed
documentary underscores the "graphic" in the usually genteel
Geographic.
There's violence and death. Fratricide. Chase scenes. Attacks
by animals with eyes that glow like coals in the dark, ripping their
newly-killed prey to shreds so they can feast on the flesh.
And there's life, too, as the camera catches the mating of lion
and lioness, the births of three lion cubs in the wild, the maternal
care shown by lion mother to her cub and hyena mother to hers.
The imagination of ...
