Article: ExxonMobil settles lawsuit for $264,000: Attorney calls case a 'clear victory' for the company

Originally faced with lawsuits representing more than 2,700 people, ExxonMobil eventually settled all asbestos claims for about $264,000 that will be distributed to 132 people, a local attorney said.

Steve Farmer, local counsel for ExxonMobil, called the resolution in the landmark asbestos case currently on trial in Kanawha County a "clear victory."

"The final amount reflects the fact that the products in question were not responsible for any illness," Farmer said. "That's what we had maintained all along."

ExxonMobil settled its remaining claims earlier this week, leaving Dow Chemical as the last defendant in a case that once involved more than 200 companies.
