WHEN the floor of her mobile home fell in a few months ago, she
laid down plywood for a makeshift floor.
The divorced mother of three couldn't afford to buy carpet or rugs
to cover the wood, so she painted the boards to match her living room
sofa.
Her caseworker has been continually impressed by the 42-year-old
woman's ability to provide for her children and make their home as
comfortable as possible.
"She has told me, 'This will have to do until I can do better,' "
her caseworker said.
The woman has two sons and one daughter who range in age from 5 to
18 years. She brings home about $520 each month for the family of
four.
