Article: East End's urban renewal proposal faces its first vote: Group says it will take fight to court

The controversial proposal to create an urban renewal district on Charleston's East End was likely to get its first up-or-down vote today.

But members of a minority activist group vow to take the fight from City Hall to the courtroom over a program they say is an attempt to disrupt African-American neighborhoods.

"We will see them in court," said Romona Taylor-Williams, director of the minority group REDEEM, which has fought the city on past proposals.
